NEWS
The Washington Wizards have signed veteran forward Josh Howard to a one-year contract worth about $5 million.
Howard came over to the Wizards in the middle of last season after the big trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
He played reasonably well for the team before tearing his ACL, and he has been busy rehabbing since that time.
Despite such a serious injury, Howard plans to be back on the court practicing sometime in October. ( Read More…)

Washington Wizards forward Andray Blatche says he will be ready for training camp after undergoing foot surgery.
Blatche had surgery about a month ago and was told it would be about eight to ten weeks before he could get back out on the court.
The forward said he has been eating healthier and getting into better shape while sidelined with the injury.
Blatche averaged over 22 points and 8 rebounds a game for the team in the final 32 games of the season. ( Read More…)

Washington Wizards rookie point guard John Wall has been impressive in his summer league play.
Wall scored 24 points in his first game and followed that up with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the next contest.
The point guard tweaked a hamstring leading up to his summer league debut, causing concern he would miss a couple of games. ( Read More…)

The Washington Wizards selected Kentucky point guard John Wall with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft.
The selection comes as little surprise, as it was well known around the league that Wall would end up in Washington.
It will now be interesting to see how Wall meshes in with the team and works together with Gilbert Arenas. ( Read More…)

The Washington Wizards acquired shooting guard Kirk Hinrich in a trade with the Chicago Bulls.
The Wizards do not have much outside shooting on the team, so maybe Hinrich can help them.
The move came on a night when the Wizards were one of the more active NBA teams on the trade front. ( Read More…)

The sale of the Washington Wizards to Capitals owner Ted Leonsis has been approved by the NBA.
Leonsis takes control of the Wizards from the Pollin family, which decided to sell it when Abe died last year.
The sale could be a very good thing for the franchise, which has floundered over the past decade.
Leonsis has money to sink into the team and did an excellent job turning the Capitals into the biggest thing in town.
David Stern believes that the franchise is now in very good hands after the end of the Pollin era.

The Washington Wizards defied the odds by winning the lottery for the top pick in this year’s NBA Draft.
With the late Abe Pollin’s wife on hand wearing his 1978 NBA championship ring, it seemed like something strange was going on as the Wizards climbed the board all the way to the top.
The top overall pick allows Washington to try and rebuild their team after what was a disastrous year on and off the court.
John Wall and Evan Turner are the consensus top two players in the draft, giving the Wizards some flexibility on where they want to upgrade.
If the team decides on Wall, the Wizards might once again be inclinded to trade or cut Gilbert Arenas to open up the point guard position.

Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis has finally finalized the purchase of the Wizards and the Verizon Center.
Leonsis purchases both from the family of the late Abe Pollin, who passed away earlier in the season.
The owner has helped turned the Capitals around and into a winner and hopes to do the same with the Wizards.
One of his first missions is to figure out the Gilbert Arenas situation and what makes him tick.
He said he believes in the best in people and wants to understand Arenas better to try to help him.

Washington Wizards star guard Gilbert Arenas was sentenced Friday and managed to avoid jail time, which comes as a significant surprise to many
Instead, Arenas will serve 30 days in a halfway house and was sentenced to 400 hours of community service that cannot be conducted at a basketball facility. He was also fined $50,000.
Arenas apologized for his actions and said that he wakes up every day wishing that he had never brought guns into the locker room and pulled them on a teammate.
The guard’s lawyers said they were very pleased with the outcome and felt as though the punishment fit the crime.
The Wizards are now highly unlikely to try and void Arenas’ contract because he was not sentenced to any jail time and the 30 days in a halfway house will not interfere with next season.

Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas had admitted he was wrong to bring guns into the locker room.
Arenas said he obviously wasn’t thinking clearly or about his future in the league when he brought the guns to the arena.
He said he was just joking around with teammate Javaris Crittenton but that it was a poor decision.
The guard also feels like he has really let down the late Abe Pollin and called his widow to apologize for his actions.
He said he will have no problem continuing his career with the Wizards once his suspension ends.
